In 2024, the Data-driven Decisions Group (D3) at the University of Würzburg, part of the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (CAIDAS), launched “KI-Regio.” This EU-funded project aims to bridge the digital divide by developing accessible AI solutions for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). Comprising over 28 researchers under five professors and collaborating with 65 partner companies, our group addresses critical barriers such as deployment costs and the lack of specialized personnel and develops prototype applications with the partner companies. We propose a strategic research retreat at the Speinshart Scientific Center for AI and SuperTech. We want to evaluate the project results that were obtained so far and define our research strategy for the next two years.
