How can artificial intelligence help people build a new life in a different country\u2014and how can this be achieved responsibly, transparently, and fairly? These are the central questions of\u00a0IntegrAItion, an interdisciplinary research retreat hosted at the\u00a0Speinshart Scientific Center for AI and SuperTech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bringing together experts from the\u00a0University of Augsburg, the\u00a0Center for Responsible AI Technologies, and leading researchers in AI ethics, computational linguistics, migration studies, philosophy, labour market research, and business informatics, the retreat explores how\u00a0trustworthy AI\u00a0can improve digital support for migrants while meeting the highest ethical standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the heart of the project is\u00a0Integreat, one of Germany\u2019s most widely used digital integration platforms, currently supporting more than a quarter of German municipalities. Together with the platform\u2019s developers, participants will investigate how recent advances in large language models can make Integreat even more responsive to individual needs while ensuring explainability, fairness, privacy, and transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over three intensive days, researchers will identify the practical needs of migrants, evaluate where AI can provide meaningful support, and critically assess these approaches against the European Commission\u2019s principles for trustworthy AI. The retreat aims not only to develop concrete ideas for enhancing digital integration services but also to contribute to the broader debate on the responsible use of AI in socially sensitive contexts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By combining technological innovation with ethical reflection and interdisciplinary collaboration,\u00a0IntegrAItiondemonstrates how artificial intelligence can strengthen social cohesion and create practical solutions for one of Europe\u2019s most important societal challenges.
