Speinshart connects science, institutes and industry – empowering research that improves the world we live in

Science meets institutes meets industry

Bridging the gap between research and practical application

In the fast-moving fields of AI and SuperTech, collaboration between academia and industry is more critical than ever

Speinshart is where scientists, academic and non-university research institutions, and companies come together – as equals and with a shared goal: to develop technologies that improve the world we live in.
Are you part of a company or a non-university research institution looking to collaborate with academic partners on the challenges and opportunities of AI and SuperTech?

Then Speinshart offers the ideal setting to connect with outstanding researchers, strong institutional partners and key players from industry. In a focused, neutral environment, ideas, alliances and partnerships emerge that extend far beyond the format itself.

Whether you’re initiating practical projects, hosting strategic retreats or building ethically grounded technologies – at Speinshart you will work together with others to close the gap between fundamental research and real-world application.

What is your idea of cooperation?

“x Speinshart” – the format for collaboration between research and practical application

“x Speinshart“ is a defined cooperation format of the Speinshart Scientific Center for AI and SuperTech (SSC), specifically designed to enable synergies between science, non-university research institutions and industry. In AI research, non-academic institutions and companies often play a dual role: they drive innovation and serve as key recipients of academic knowledge transfer.

Within the “x Speinshart“ format, your institution – whether a research institute, agency or company – becomes an official cooperation partner of the SSC. Together, a structured framework is created to host key formats such as Speinshart Seminars and Connect@Speinshart Retreats. The aim is to bring research and application into close dialogue – and to generate impact that is both socially and economically relevant.

As a partner institution, you take on curatorial responsibility: you define the thematic focus, identify relevant questions and select the participant group. The SSC ensures academic quality through peer review. Ideally, researchers and practitioners work closely together in this setting – in an open, neutral and excellence-driven environment that fosters new perspectives and long-term collaboration.

Better together. The SSC’s very first collaboration was with Baiosphere – a great example of how powerful partnerships can be. It was an exciting and successful start, setting the tone for everything that followed.

“At the Speinshart Scientific Center for AI and SuperTech, we forge transformative partnerships with industry leaders, catalyzing innovation and driving the future of intelligent solutions.”

Prof. Dr. Günter Leugering
Scientific Director of the Speinshart Scientific Center for AI and SuperTech

Additional formats for a collaboration

Beyond “x Speinshart“, the Scientific Center offers additional ways to engage – tailored to companies and research institutions alike:

For example, in cooperation with the Bavarian-Czech Academic Agency (BTHA), where companies and research institutions can contribute in a variety of ways:

  • Co-creation of content: Help design practice-oriented modules or challenges – e.g. on data ethics, industrial AI applications, or regulatory frameworks.
  • Guest lectures and case studies: Share real-world challenges or use cases from your field.
  • Mentoring & networking: Participate in interactive sessions such as speed mentoring, panel discussions or career talks with students.
  • Applied projects: Initiate small-scale research tasks for students to work on in teams – with guidance from your organization.
Your benefits: Early access to emerging talent, exposure to fresh academic perspectives, increased visibility in research contexts.

Retreat formats for focused dissertation or postdoc work – complemented by interdisciplinary dialogue. Opportunities for collaboration include:

  • Problem input: Contribute real-world research questions that young scientists can explore.
  • Expert feedback: Take part in discussion rounds, feedback sessions or proposal reviews.
  • Initiate collaborations: Discover potential for joint projects in a relaxed, focused setting.
Your benefits: Build long-term relationships with the next generation of researchers; co-develop projects in a space designed for interaction.

Workshops, panels and retreats on the normative and social dimensions of technological progress. Here’s how you can contribute:

  • Bring in your perspective: Join the discourse on responsibility, regulation, sustainability, bias, etc.
  • Co-curate content: Shape thematic priorities based on real-world challenges and strategic outlooks.
  • Position your institution: Present yourself as a responsible voice in the broader AI and tech discourse.
Your benefits: Deepen your role in societal dialogue, help shape ethical standards, and gain valuable insights for responsible innovation strategies.
