The Speinshart Scientific Center for AI and SuperTech is pleased to host the AI Ethics in Practice Retreat, an intensive five-day programme developed by the Technical University of Ingolstadt (THI) as part of the eTHIcs Digitalisation College.
Designed for advanced Bachelor’s and Master’s students in technical disciplines, the retreat combines scientific excellence with practical application to explore one of the defining challenges of our time: the responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence.
Set against the unique backdrop of Speinshart Monastery, participants will examine key topics including AI bias and fairness, transparency and explainability, responsibility and governance, human–AI interaction, creativity, and the environmental impact of AI. Throughout the programme, students will work in interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive Ethical Impact Assessments (EIAs) for real-world AI applications, supported by leading researchers and invited experts.
More than a traditional summer school, the retreat is designed as an immersive environment for critical reflection, interdisciplinary collaboration, and hands-on problem solving. By bringing together students from THI and other Bavarian universities, the programme also aims to strengthen long-term networks in AI ethics research and foster a new generation of researchers and developers who regard ethical responsibility as a fundamental component of technological innovation.
The first retreat is planned for 3–7 August 2026, with a second edition scheduled for early 2027. The Speinshart Scientific Center looks forward to welcoming participants for an inspiring week of scientific exchange, dialogue, and collaborative learning.
