The Speinshart Scientific Center for AI and SuperTech will host TOPOS2027 – the Topology Optimization Mini Summit, bringing together leading researchers from some of Germany’s foremost universities to explore the future of computational structural design.
The meeting will assemble experts from FAU Erlangen–Nuremberg, the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), the University of Wuppertal, and Leibniz University Hannover. Their complementary expertise spans applied mathematics, structural optimisation, lightweight engineering, nonlinear mechanics, uncertainty quantification, and AI-supported design methodologies.
Topology optimisation has become one of the key technologies for developing highly efficient structures in fields such as automotive engineering, aerospace, robotics, and advanced manufacturing. By combining mathematical optimisation with artificial intelligence and high-fidelity simulation, researchers are creating new approaches that enable lighter, stronger, and more sustainable products while reducing material consumption and development time.
TOPOS2027 is designed as an intensive networking event where participants will exchange ideas, identify common research challenges, and explore opportunities for long-term scientific collaboration. Particular emphasis will be placed on integrating AI-driven optimisation methods with manufacturing-aware design strategies and advanced computational models to address the increasingly complex requirements of modern engineering.
Beyond scientific exchange, the summit aims to establish the foundation for a future DFG Priority Programme, strengthening Germany’s structural optimisation community and enhancing its international visibility. By bringing together researchers with complementary expertise in an inspiring environment, the Speinshart Scientific Center provides an ideal setting for developing ambitious collaborative research initiatives at the intersection of artificial intelligence, mathematics, and engineering.
