Das Speinshart Scientific Center for AI and SuperTech ist ein interdisziplinäres Wissenschaftszentrum, das von den beiden Verbünden Hochschule Bayern und Universität Bayern getragen und durch Mittel des Staatsministeriums für Wissenschaft und Kunst finanziert wird. Es verfolgt das Ziel, Forschung zu Künstlicher Intelligenz und Schlüsseltechnologien mit Fragen der digitalen Transformation, Ethik, Governance und gesellschaftlichen Wirkung zu verbinden und diese Themen in Wissenschaft, Politik, Wirtschaft und Öffentlichkeit zu vermitteln (vgl. www.speinshart.ai).
Kernaufgabe des Centers ist die Veranstaltung wissenschaftlicher Retreats, um internationalen Forschenden die Möglichkeit zu geben, sich für mehrere Tage in Gruppen zusammenzufinden und sich ganz auf Ihre Arbeit zu konzentrieren. Dafür bietet die aktive Prämonstratenser-Abtei Speinshart, die die Zukunftsforschung mit der jahrhundertealten Tradition des Ordens verbindet, den perfekten Rahmen.
Prof. Dr. Udo Hebel und Prof. Dr. Clemens Bulitta stehen dem Aufsichtsrat des SSC vor
Der Aufsichtsrat der Träger-gGmbH wählte nun bei seiner konstituierenden Sitzung Prof. Dr. Udo Hebel, Präsident der Universität Regensburg, zu seinem Vorsitzenden. Zu seinem Stellvertreter wurde Prof. Dr. Clemens Bulitta, Präsident der OTH Amberg/Weiden, gewählt. Vergleichbar mit einem Unternehmen wird der Aufsichtsrat die Geschäfte des Centers begleiten und zusätzlich auch in enger Abstimmung mit dem wissenschaftlichen Direktor der Einrichtung über die inhaltliche Arbeit der Struktur beraten. Weitere Mitglieder des Rats sind neben den beiden Vorsitzenden Prof. Dr. Paul Pauli, Präsident der Universität Würzburg, Julian Mangels, Ministerialrat am Bayerischen Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst, und Andreas Trinkl, Partner bei Deloitte und verantwortlich für das AI@SAP Center of Excellence in Walldorf für Europa.
Das erste Jahr des Betriebs stand ganz im Zeichen des Strukturaufbaus vor Ort, doch konnten parallel dazu bereits elf internationale Tagungen und Retreats organisiert werden. Zusätzlich lud man im September zum Auftakt einer dreijährigen bayerisch-tschechischen Summer-School-Reihe zum Thema „AI and Robotics“ hochkarätige Gäste aus Wissenschaft und Politik ein.
Supervisory Board Begins Its Term of Office
The Speinshart Scientific Center for AI and SuperTech (SSC) is an interdisciplinary research center jointly supported by the Bavarian Universities of Applied Sciences Alliance (Hochschule Bayern) and the Bavarian Universities Alliance (Universität Bayern) and funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts. Its mission is to connect research on Artificial Intelligence and key technologies with questions of digital transformation, ethics, governance, and societal impact, and to communicate these topics across academia, politics, industry, and the broader public (see www.speinshart.ai).
The core mission of the Center is the organization of scientific retreats, offering international researchers the opportunity to come together in groups for several days and to focus entirely on their work. The active Premonstratensian Abbey of Speinshart, which combines future-oriented research with the centuries-old tradition of the Order, provides an ideal setting for this purpose.

At its constitutive meeting, the Supervisory Board of the supporting non-profit company elected Prof. Dr. Udo Hebel, President of the University of Regensburg, as its Chair. Prof. Dr. Clemens Bulitta, President of OTH Amberg-Weiden, was elected Deputy Chair. Comparable to the role of a supervisory board in a company, the Board accompanies the Center’s operations and, in close coordination with the Scientific Director, also advises on the institution’s academic and strategic direction. In addition to the two chairs, further members of the Board include Prof. Dr. Paul Pauli, President of the University of Würzburg; Julian Mangels, Ministerial Councillor at the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts; and Andreas Trinkl, Partner at Deloitte and Head of the AI@SAP Center of Excellence for Europe in Walldorf.
The Center’s first year of operation focused primarily on establishing its organizational structures on site. At the same time, eleven international conferences and retreats were successfully organized. In addition, in September the SSC hosted the opening event of a three-year Bavarian-Czech Summer School series on the topic of “AI and Robotics”, welcoming distinguished guests from academia and politics.
